Duty Truth Honor...

Of all of the pages I have made, I would have to say this one is one of my favorites.

As I prepared for Graduation from high school, I was also preparing to leave the marching band, which had been my family for five years. This entry in my book was actually a "rough draft" of sorts for my art final; the final was nearly a couple feet high. What you cannot really see here is that the blue boarder is raised so is the figure on the right. Although an easy task, cutting away the many pages can be a bit difficult, especially when your blade is not sharp.

And now, a couple of my favorite music quotes:

"Without music, life would be a mistake. " -Friedrich Nietzsche

"Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water-bath is to the body." - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Thinking Spring

So, It has happened yet again! Thank-you New England! Right when you think the cold and snowy winter will never end, BAM, nice "toasty" weather reaching near 50!!

In honor of such hope, I give you a couple pictures I have taken to further the excitement of the break in the weather, even though it is still January.

Here are a couple penguins in my backyard, don't forget their faces, you may be seeming more of them in posts to come.

What could be more "Spring-like" than some flowers (even if they don't come out until the summer)

Back to the Basics

What better way to get into working on an altered book than to go through one of my old ones! For those who may not know, an altered book is when you take an old book (outdated text books, encyclopedias, and even novels work well) and cut, paste, paint, scrapbook, or whatever your style may be to create one big piece of art- containing other works of art- all wrapped into one. There is no right or wrong way to alter a book. To better explain here the the cover and a couple pages from my first altered book.

Aside from my books, I also do "mosaic tiles" with old magazines.

Why Hello!

As I sat on my computer one night just wasting time, I wondered what else I could be doing-if there was anything better to do. It finally hit me as I rummaged through my room and came across my abandoned art supplies. I have been telling myself I would start to work on my art again, just like I have been promising myself I would once again start going to the gym...which I am still yet to do.

So, here I am, exploring my old work and striving to regain the desire and need to continue and tweak my new pieces. No worries, I am not going to sit here and rave about a new technique or a new medium I have stumbled across. I will however post old, new, and in-progress pieces along with my inspirations, stories, and maybe even a quote or two.
